Luke 21:25-36
Advent 1C, December 1st, 2024
What is the message about? . . .
This Sunday is the beginning of the season that in Christianity is called “Advent.” The name comes from Latin adventus ('coming; arrival'). Starting the fourth Sunday before Christmas, we anticipate the celebration of Jesus arrival and the wonderful scene of the nativity in Bethlehem. You might have at home an Advent calendar. In our sanctuary we have the Advent wreath. It is a time to look forward expectantly and be still in the expectation of Christ. However, the percentage of adults in the US who say they feel stressed during the holidays ranges up to 88%! What is so stressful about the “most wonderful time of the year?” It can become a frenzy of shopping, traveling and financial strain. Social expectations and strained family dynamics. What are some ways that we can make this season different this year? Let us explore this further on Sunday morning. See you there!
