“Are You Offended?” John 6:56-69

Pentecost 14B, August 25th, 2024

What is the sermon about? . . .

When Jesus was ready to reveal who he was, “the bread of eternal life,” some of his own followers in the first century found this difficult and unacceptable. He lost a lot of disciples just by speaking the truth about himself. There are times when we speak our truth in full, and it has consequences. A path of handling difficult or tricky situations with hard truth can come with some sacrifices along the way. The act of sharing the truth can become kindling for a fire that clears space for something new and more authentic. We must be discerning about which losses we are willing to endure, and which benefit best takes care of what we really want, then we can determine the next right step. Jesus was more focused on being who he truly was than drawing crowds and the approval of others. Another wonderful and amazing example for all of us. Let us dive a little deeper into this together on Sunday morning.
