Luke 1:39-55

What is the message about? . . .
“Mary did you know?” is a popular song that is heard during the Christmas season. It has a beautiful melody, and I have a great memory of it as being one of the first solos I sang at Church at First Christian in Jefferson City. The song asks a series of questions about whether Mary knew the significance of the Child she carried, and the way that the human relationship with the eternal power of creation would be forever altered by this “baby boy”. The scripture text for this week makes clear that in Luke’s eyes, Mary certainly did know. The “Magnificat” as it is known, is a prayer that Luke puts in the voice of Mary herself. Did Mary know? Let’s explore this question Sunday morning. Join us for Advent’s fourth Sunday, focusing on a song of love. See you there!
